Blum Discovery Trip to El Mangle Campus in La Paz, Mexico

Nov 17, 2015 by Ricardo Light

From November 17-19, a team of faculty and students from UC Irvine’s Samueli School of Engineering and the School of Social Ecology are partnering with the Blum Center for Poverty Alleviation and traveling to La Paz, Mexico to develop a field site for students to learn about and work on poverty in the region through urban and child development. The team expects to build connections that will lead to research opportunities and consider how to best utilize the group’s collective resources to achieve the most beneficial impact in the community. In building this new partnership with El Mangle the team wants to understand how the campus can be a useful platform for research. Those in attendance include Dr. Richard Matthew, Dr. Victoria Basolo, Dr. Maria Rendon, Dr. Shannon Curry, Dr. Jodi Quas, Ruth Gyllenhammer, Associate Director of Blum Center for Poverty Alleviation, and Ph.D. Candidates – Kristen Goodrich and Jochen Schubert of FloodRISE.

El Mangle (http://elmangle.org/) is a campus designed to create meaningful, positive actions with a vision to become an action-learning center that incubates innovative scalable solutions and enables the leaders to drive change.
