Dr. Gisela Vega

Dr. Gisela Vega (“Dr. G”) is a caring and insightful therapist with more than 15 years of experience providing counseling and evaluation services. Dr. G’s approach with all clients is friendly, accepting, and nonjudgmental. She is genuine and warm, and has a soothing effect on all those she encounters.

Originally from Argentina, Dr. G was selected for a highly-competitive post-graduate training program at Belgrano University in Buenos Aires, where she gained expertise in the evaluation and treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorder. She went on to complete additional training at the prestigious Fleni Hospital for Neuroscience, and at Helios Salud, the largest outpatient treatment center for HIV and other infectious disease in the country.

In 2011, Dr. G was visited at Fleni Hospital by the clinical recruitment team for the Devereux Foundation, one of several American mental health organizations that regularly visited the hospital’s renown training program to hire clinicians. Dr. G accepted a position with the Devereux Foundation and relocated to Pennsylvania to begin working as a therapist and evaluator at several of the Devereux facilities.

Once in the U.S., Dr. G earned her doctorate degree in clinical psychology from the American Psychological Association (APA)-Accredited Clinical Psychology program at Immaculata University. She developed a passion for multicultural psychology, and her dissertation research focused on cultural differences in coping among mothers with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

She went on on to complete an APA-accredited doctoral internship through the Immaculata Consortium where she worked with adults, adolescents and families; helping them manage a variety of issues such as interpersonal conflict, divorce, depression, anxiety, acculturation stress, and trauma. During this time Dr. G also obtained specialized training in advanced psychological assessment; providing mental fitness evaluations for police duty, medical procedures, and parental custody; as well as complex diagnostic evaluations to determine the presence of Autism Spectrum and other Developmental Disorders. Today, she is an expert evaluator, with certification in the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) and experience in bilingual (Spanish-English) test administration.

In addition to her research and clinical experience with adults, children and families; Dr. G worked for the Devereux Foundation for more than eight years; providing therapy and testing services to adolescents with emotional and developmental concerns. While there, she went above and beyond to ensure that families had the guidance and support necessary to optimize each teen’s potential.

Dr. G. is a post-doctoral psychology resident at the Curry Psychology Group, working under the license and supervision of Dr. Shannon Curry.
